How soft should the wax ring be before place under the toilet?

that wax isn't like regular parrafin. it should be quiet amiable at room temperature. almost the consistancy of play-dough or something.

It is actually not all that soft. It should not be pliable...When you push the unit down it is supposed to be hard enough so that it will ooze around the 'pipe' and make that seal.

It will be the consistency of clay. So it holds it's shape but is mailable (means you could shape it)

Room temperature, just take it out of the box and install it.
