can it be someone other than a doctor or police officer, solicitor ?? someone i can get to quickly that wont charge me loads just for a signature.....

You can get a full list from http://www.passport.gov.uk/index.asp You will be surprised by the number of people who can sign a passport these days.

A local councillor signed mine. I do believe any Civil Servant can, at least that is what the lady at the Passport office told me.

You don't say how old your son is. If he is school age his teacher can sign it - it would have to be a teacher though. If he is too yound for this do you have any friends who are fulfil the requirements?

if he goes to school then his teacher/head teacher should be able to help.
