I helped mine by making a list of all the good things in my life. At the time I didn't think there would be much but its suprising how many there are. Silly little things like favourite songs and T.V programmes are among some of the things that went onto my list. I then looked at this list everythime I was feeling low and this would help me look at my life in a more positive note. If something new came to mind, I would add it to my list and my list grew and grew. I also kept a diary writing down all my thoughts and feelings. I got over my depression without even taking a single anti-depressant.

Putting a pill in your body won't change the cause of the depression. Your dealing with a mental process that has taken a long time to grow. Your thoughts and beliefs shape the path of your depression. I won't talk about the cause but I will offer a solution. Mantra Meditation. It releases the trigger of the emotions that cause depression. Its easy to do and it works over a period of time. Each person benefits at different rates. Some get fast results, some don't. But eventually it works for everyone. Meditation removes the blocks to making decisions that give control back to your life. It also gives you physical benefits. Every aspect of life can be improved through mantra meditation. Meditation like breathing only works if you use it. Meditate for months and keep a diary of your results. It works slowly but the results are permanent.

Clary sage is meant to be an uplifting essentail oil. You can add a couple of drops to your bath, use a few drops in water in an oil burner or mix up a couple of drops into a carrier oil like almond oil to use as a massage oil. Try some uplifting music and some exercise too as this will get the endorphins (your natural feel-good hormones) pumping through your system.

In addition to all the good answers such as exercising (Yoga, Meditation or ur own favorite sport) team activities, favorit things n getting connected with positive ppl, and taking St. John's Wart which is a plant n the medicine is being taken from the root and it's very helpful in fact (across from the taste), I would suggest taking Saffron/Crocus tea 2 glasses every day.
I must say that some times depression is from having to much activities and thoughts in life. some how like being worried about every single thing that happens n they mostly are out of ur control... if so try calming ur thoughts n participating in calming group exercises such as yoga & meditations, swimming, dancing or hiking n so on..
as for ur nutrition:
stay away from rice, cheese spacially the coocked chees on pizzas, beef, and do't take these at night: fish, potatos n aubergiene.
replace white sugar with honey, repace weat bread with oat bred , if having yougard mix it with dry mint powder or dry rose powder, replace beef with lamp. n all togeter try eating foods that are natural, calming and energetic.

It has been said that exercise helps tremendously to keep depression down. This is because it raises the level of serotonin's in the brain.. (the happy hormone).
Look into dietary solutions too.. what you eat and drink can affect your moods.. Try to eat a well balanced diet.. Your daily quota of fruits and vegetables will help. Drink lots of Water but cut down on Tea, Coffee and ESPECIALLY Alcohol..
Hope this helps.

I was told a few years ago that something called St. John's Wart can help. Think it's a herb or a root or something. Apparently you can get it from health shops. Although the other answers are very valid in that surrounding yourself with good friends will do you a power of good.

Take up sport, running in an hour in the gym or even out in the fresh air like a park does wonder for your mood, self esteem and spirits.
Or take up something that you are good at. Or even go out and learn something new.
