I am thinking of buying a "high quality" diamond ring but not sure what the report on it means. It states the depth is 64% and the table is 60%. The polish is good and the symmetry is very good. The girdle is thin. Color is F and clarity is VS1. I know what the last two terms are but what about the rest? Also, it comments that some parts of the polish are not shown. (I guess that means where the mount is). Does this sound like a good cut?

thanks!!

It is all in your eyes. Never buy diamond for the specification. You need to develop an emotional attachment for it. You buy if you like it unconditionally. if you fall in love.. Dont buy it if you dont fall in love

Scroll through the site below, which provides some good detail on diamond selection.

This sounds like a good diamond. To the naked eye, it should have good brilliance, and appear nearly flawless. Only upon very, very close inspection (or under a microscope) will you be able to see any miscoloration or inclusions.

Its not quite an Ideal cut stone, but close. the American Ideal cut has a table 53-57% and a depth the same. Your stone would be a much better cut if the depth was smaller than 64%, but its still a decent stone....
