Tell them what they do now will determine if they get into a good college and make sure to tell the ones that don't have all the money in the world that they can still get in by keeping their grades up.Make sure they have a major figured out before they get to college and that junior college will prepare them for that journey.that a good education will guarantee that their children will be well off in not to mention a good role model plus their parents would be so proud.Tell them in the grand scheme of things being the most popular person isn't going to pay the mortgage.

After all my college degrees, I often wonder myself, since so much nonsense is being "taught" in schools. It's no wonder we have a hard time convincing our kids that school is "good". Maybe the sole benefit in school, besides becoming more literate, is the benefit of discipline gained by having to study in order to pass. Oh, who am I kidding. I've seen too many "graduates" that sound like morons from the internet or athletics or arts. It may be a great idea to share with the kids your desperation in trying to find a reason to tout education as provided to the masses here in America, and see what they come up with. Either you'll get some fantastic responses and a renewed vigor among the youth to show YOU how good education is, or you'll have a grassroots revolution on your hands, and will be fired from teaching. As you may know, true educating is difficult, increasingly in this world of internet and "improved communication". God Bless you on your attempts. I'm sure you'll need His Blessings in your job.

This is what you do. Start them out with telling them how much minimum wage is - which is what they can expect to earn without an education. Calculate for them how much this would be a month. Then begin to subtract - first take out taxes then the monthly bills - rent, phone, utilities, car/bus, insurance (health and/or auto), groceries, etc. Then ask them if they hope to have a boyfriend/girlfriend - they'll need $$ for dates/clothes etc. Then you'll find they have very little $$ left over if any. And what happens if you need money for something important like to fix your car or get surgery? You have no savings! And that's because you have no education. Education gets you a better job and better pay so you can have a savings and someday buy that luxury car or dream home.
Good Luck - this always works for me. :)

There are two things that should be mentioned: happiness and monetary gain. Explain the difference in how much money a non high school graduate and a high school graduate make. (maybe you could use some students to represent a percentage) The same can be method can be used to explain how some people end up working in jobs where they are terribly unhappy because they don't have the education to do what they really want to do. You could also use examples of very sucessful people and how they finished school (especially sports stars).

So that they could grow up to be better people. They could work anywhere they want, as most high paying jobs are white collar jobs.
