I have a wonderful two-worded ripost for these people. One of the words is "Off" and the other isn't............

Smile and take it as permission to talk for a long time about a particularly boring situation. Go on and on and on.
Otherwise take it as asking for a definition. Rephrase it many times and define every word which you just said.
I don't actually recommend you do this: you don't know what reaction you might get.

I wouldn't answer at all - raise an eyebrow, turn around and walk away - anything - sometimes it is more effective to say nothing rather than think of something to say back that sounds just as silly and might not be actually funny!

Just laugh at them, this is what I do. People expect you to be bothered with the 'whatever' move, but I find it hilarious that Ricki Lake guests have suddenly appeared in front of me lol!xx

Just laugh and act you don't care ether most people that say that that are trying to irritate you so if you show you don't care they see that they didn't get to you so therefor they will get mad
