Elixir strings are good for long life. They feel really good to the touch and would be considered smooth. They come in polyweb and nanoweb coatings. The polyweb is the smoother. For a really good tone, go with Ernie Ball's Slinkys. Those are the strings used by professionals such as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and practically anyone else you can think of. While Ernie Ball's Slinkys have the best tone, they don't have the longest life. Those musicians have them changed between every show. I doubt you'll be playing at concert intensity or length, so they should give you decent life.
