There have been much research about this topic.
The conclusion of all of it has been that in a successful marriage the couple has similar personalities, religious beliefs, and general life expectations.
Marrying someone different in these areas will guarantee you to have problems later and most likely divorce.

I married someone with an opposite personality and we were together for almost 3 years. The last year and a half were miserable! Been separated for 10 months now. I know now that you have to think alike to make things work. Marriage can be hard enough without fighting over everything.
If you truly want to make it last you have to communicate and find ways to see eye to eye. A good counselor will help!

Well I'm finding out now as I'm engaged and my finace, I wouldn't say is the complete opposite of me but our opinions on things such as family are becomiing a huge problem. He wants to spend all of his time with his gay loser family (I cannot even describe how annoying these people are, they make me want to puke) not to mention they live 2 1/2 hours away from civilization in bumblef*ck PA (horrible state) now he wants to drive all the way there from North Jersey all the time to see his goody two shoes parents. I can't take it, I work 5 days a week busting my *** while he works whenever he feels like it, spends all my money and now I have to spend my weekends with these people? Christ I can't even have a drink in front of them or his god damn mother would pass out. Yeah, I'll let you know if we even make it to the alter. So I see how marrying an opposite can be cause for a problem.

at first i never thought that we are opposite, coz he pretended to agree with whatever we tackle in every aspect. but years later, the real him came out, sure one can never hide a stinky attitude forever. we started arguing on a lot things. the family is never his priority, the best thing in life for him is having fun drinking liquor with his friends. while on my part, i just stay home after my 8 hour job to attend to my children's needs, emotional or otherwise. soon as he gets home after his drinking spree with his so-called friends, everything in the house will turn into a mess. i thought of quitting because of this, and now he pretends to have changed for good. telling me that he pities his children, he doesn't want them to grow up not having a father to cling on...yeah right! if he could easily change for good, he can easily go back to being bad,,,i don't care if my children will grow up without a father...emotionally,they never had one anyway...he was there physically...that was all about it...he never was a father in the real sense of the word...i should have thoroughly thought of the phrase "opposites attract" , those are magnets...we are not

A major different has to believe the different major different. Having a chum of the option sex is high-quality, see you later because that isn't any longer an truly close chum. the concern is in basic terms the nature of male and woman relationships. To have an opposite-sex friendship, the major different might want to do each thing in his/her power to no longer arouse suspicion. for this reason, with a chum, that is ideal to do issues in communities and on uncommon activities do issues on my own which incorporates helping someone bypass or visit the different individual's living house.

i married someone of different religious beliefs than mine and ended up divorced from that person because in their religion the man has all the rights and women are second class citizens. Ewww.... glad to be divorced from him and married to a first class man all the way . Same views on religion. Thank God . I hope I helped.

It can be a problem especially when they come up with an idea that has no sense or logic to it and want to run with it.

Love is all about how you feel and what you show that person. So you figure it out. No one can tell you anything when you are in love.
