Why would you even think that they are as you put it "sucking up?"
They are doing it for "economic" reasons......they are doing it for the same reason we have all the hoopla at new years...out with the old, in with the new.... The new stadium is going to cost an excess of a gazillion dollars, it will taunt and tease all the bigwigs of the sport and generate alot of press until the new stadium opens, not just for the Yankees, but for all of the Majors. When one team benefits, they all benefit on one way or another
To prove this, here the game is 18 months away and already we're talking about it

It's not sucking up at all. The whole point of the All-Star game is to choose a different city each year, alternating between American League and National League parks.
The Yankees haven't hosted an All-Star game since 1977. If you figure that there are 30 teams in MLB, then it's totally their turn in the rotation. Does New York need an All-Star game to generate extra revenue as much as say Kansas City or Cincinnati....probably not, but it is a fitting send-off to old Yankee Stadium.
As far as holding the All-Star game at Fenway, Camden Yards and Wrigley...all three of those sites have hosted the Mid-Summer Classic at some point in the last twenty-years.
Boston - 1999
Baltimore - 1993
Chicago - 1990
The one that is the most likely to come around again would be Chicago, but the All-Star game was just at US Cellular Field a few years ago and the Commish would have a hard time trying to convince the rest of MLB that Chicago deserves another All-Star game anytime real soon.
Plus the Cubbies would probably have to wait until about 2011 before their next shot comes up. The Giants are getting the game this season and it looks like the Cardinals new Busch Stadium is the front-runner for the 2009 game. Other notable NL clubs in the running are the D-Backs, Reds and Nats.

not that I like the yankees at all, but why would I care if it is at yankee stadium? Doesn't rotate to all the different teams in the league? It doesn't really matter where it is played. Last time I checked the yanks were in the MLB and that makes them a qualifer for hosting. However, I do think that there is a pre-disposition to having the All Start games at all the new stadiums like Houston and St. Louis. Oakland last hosted it in 1987. And probably won't do another until 2015 at the earliest if we have a new stadium built. Take a look at the last say 10 games? Almost all were new stadiums. Pittsburg, Detroit, Houston, Chicago, Safeco. It is a conspiracy against old stadiums actually. I am surprised that they aren't having it until the new one is built. Especially with Steinbrenner still with the team. Wouldn't he want to show off the new masterpiece and not the old one?

ARE YOU NUTS? Of course it isn't. 2008 is the last year that the Yankee Stadium will exist. Aside form that, the All Star Game hasn't been played in Yankee Stadium since 1977. I wasn't even born yet. I would like to see an All Star Game at Yankee Stadium for once in my life. It is a fine tribute to the stadium that is the home of the greatest franchise in the history of sports. The New York Yankees.

You're kidding right?
The House that Ruth Built is justifiably that most famous baseball stadium in the world.
It was the greatness of the Babe and the NY Yankees that put MLB on the map and have kept it there for so long.
MLB is simply acknowledging the debt of gratitude that it owes the NY Yankees.
You should also pay a similiar debt of gratitude to the Yankees
I don't know where you live and I really don't care.
I do know that one of the reasons that your town can afford to have a MLB team is because whenever the Yankee's visit ,their fans significantly increase the attendance at your ballpark. It is that increase in revenue that helps your team stay in business.
So give respect where respect is due.
On a personal note
When Yankee Stadium is torn down I will miss it because from my first game in 1959 until now it has been a part of my life .
As a baseball fan , when Fenway and Wrigley are finally torn down I will miss them also because then all the ties to the past will have been severed.

Are you kidding me. That year is the Yankees last year in that stadium. Why would it be bad to have the all-star game there? What's wrong with sucking up to the Yankees. Unless your a Red Sox fan because then you'd just be jealous.

I do get excitement from the game, yet I only fall unwell and drained of one league or the different dominating continually. i'm a nationwide League fan or maybe I were given drained of the N. L. prevailing continually in the 60's and 70's. There desires to be extra stability between both leagues and that i do not see that happening each and anytime quickly, because all the massive money communities with the perfect gamers are in the yank League...

I think this is a tribute to the great stadium Yankee Stadium and for anybody to think different is way out of line. There is so much history that has happened right there on those bases and pitching mound. Its going to be a sad day in baseball when they tear down that Historical Landmark

I think it is a great idea. Yankee stadium is very old, and I think it is a great way to go out with a bang. New York is also a very good place to have an All-star game because of its size.
