With any upgrade, you have to ask yourself if you can achieve what you want effectively with what you presently have. If you can, even if it may be less efficient (longer) but you can put up with it, then the answer is, No! Especially if upgrading any MS software is going to cost you a great deal of expense. If your hardware is not up to scratch, you will need to upgrade it as well, or even dump it and buy new ones.
Have you tried Linux? You can get many flavours of Linux free of charge. If it will do what you want, it is a good OS - stable, powerful, free - all that Visat isn't.

As another poster has said, the generally accepted rule is that you wait until Microsoft release the first Service Pack before upgrading.

Having said that, Vista does seem to be a significant improvement on XP certainly from the point of view of Security. Vista really does seem to have thought about security big time. So if you want to stay with Microsoft it looks like it'll be a worthwhile upgrade in the long run. Some even say that Vista has been so well developed it may even be safe to use as it is now.... only time will tell.

Of course you must also consider the fact that Vista will need a bigger, faster computer than XP to run well. So it might be worth:
a) Waiting for Service Pack 1.
b) Getting a new PC at the same time (or at least a significant upgrade in hardware) and getting Vista thrown in.

OR
Consider another operating system such as Linux or another platform like Apple Mac.

I've been using Vista for a while now, its a definite improvement over XP. However for the average user I wouldn't say there are any new must have features at the moment. Once DirectX 10 becomes established this may become a different story.

If you are a keen gamer I would defiantly stick to XP. Games performance is terrible (if you can actually get them to work). With that said its probably more a driver issue rather than Vista itself.

Not at that price and besides there are to many flaws in it still. I don't think it is all that great.
