And I don't want to hear how "influential" they were....Alice was a LOT more influential. Neither of these 2 had a very long career while Alice has been steadily releasing top notch albums for almost 40 years straight! Rap isn't even music..it's talking...hell I can do that! Not only is Patti Smith repulsive to look at, her "singing" is amateurish and irritating. It's bad enough they induct a children's band like ACDC. But how can it truly be called a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame without Alice, Uriah Heep, Vanilla Fudge, and the B-52's?

Great answers so far....I guess I should add that I'm surprised Yes, ELP, and ELO aren't in, whereas Percy Sledge, Gladys Knight, The Dells, and Bonnie Raitt should be ousted as "unworthy".

I didn't call Patti Smyth a 1-hit wonder, I called Patti Smith a 1-hit wonder. Either way both Pattis are very unworthy. Patti Smith only has 2 semi-famous songs, G-L-O-R-I-A & Because the Night- both cover songs! The only people Patti Smith influenced were Michael Stipe and Gilda Radner- big deal.

I'll be really pissed if KISS makes it to the Hall before Alice, since they are merely a cheap commercialized version of Alice.

like it or not smith is worthy as a real influence on the 'punk' bands and the scene

also ac/dc.

I AGREE 100% that Alice Copper is a BIG deal and will get in for sure

Ditto B-52's

both had tremendous originality and style

I saw the Fudge around 1969? in NY at wither the OBI, Action House, RockPile in Long Island somewhere.

FYI Patti Smyth not a one hit wonder

Patti Smyth- Following two solo albums in 1987 and 1992, she secured a further hit record via a duet with Don Henley of The Eagles; "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" peaked at number 2 in the US charts and went gold. Its parent album, Patty Smyth, also went gold and featured an additional Top-10 hit with "No Mistakes", as well as "I Should Be Laughing", a minor hit. She had previously recorded with Henley as a backing vocalist on several songs on his albums Building The Perfect Beast and The End of the Innocence.

something else to ponder-
The main criticism bhind the hall of fame is that the nomination process is controlled by a few individuals, such as founder Jann Wenner, former foundation director Suzan Evans, and writer Dave Marsh, reflecting their tastes rather than the views of the rock world as a whole. A former member of the nominations board once said:

At one point Suzan Evans lamented the choices being made because there weren't enough big names that would sell tickets to the dinner. That was quickly remedied by dropping one of the doo-wop groups being considered in favor of a 'name' artist ... I saw how certain pioneering artists of the 50s and early 60s were shunned because there needed to be more name power on the list, resulting in 70s superstars getting in before the people who made it possible for them. Some of those pioneers still aren't in today — but Queen is.

There are also very few art rock, progressive rock, hard rock or heavy metal bands in the hall. To date, the only art rock/progressive rock artists inducted have been Pink Floyd, Queen, Traffic, and Frank Zappa; the only hard rock bands that have been inducted are Led Zeppelin in 1995, Aerosmith and Queen in 2001, AC/DC in 2003, Black Sabbath in 2006, and Van Halen in 2007.

as far as Joseph Saddler aka Grandmaster Flash your guess is as good as mine doesn't make much sense but if you look through a list of inductees you'll see many names that don't quite fit if you know what I mean!!!!!
