My wife and I moved to south carolina ten years ago. She is a housewife, and due to epilepsy she cannot drive.My son accidentally threw her walet away with her social security card in it(along with 300$). She tried to get a SC ID card with her birth certificate, and a mailing address from our utillity company. The SCDMV said she had to have her SS. card.So, we went to get her card, and the ss dept. said that she could not have a ss card without photo ID.so ss wants an SC. ID. SCDMV wants a ss card.HELP!!!!!.Any ideas anybody?????????????? Thanks......ps. she has no w2 , or a statement from ss. I guess we would have been better off if we were on welfare...lol...(we'd have welfare docs...they'll accept those in leu of a ss. card) help!!!

we have done our taxes at the same place...they know us, so no ID needed.well, till they stopped this year, they would not accept our tax returns, because we fill that stuff out, we could put anything. oh, and pig we moved here from Altoona PA.

this is how messed up this place is. My wife never took my last name, but we are married legally,in the state of Pa.. They told my wife "BY LAW SHE MUST CHANGE HER LAST NAME TO MINE ONCE WE WERE MARRIED"! Well, of course that's a load of crap..they had to call thier legal Dept. Just to find out we were right, she did not have to take my last name!!! Now perhaps you have a better Idea of the people We're trying to reason with..lol

does she have a voter registration card? SC DMV will accept that as proof of your social security number.

also SS website says that if you do not have a photo ID and can not get one within 10 days that they will accept

Employee ID card;
School ID card;
Health insurance card (not a Medicare card);
U.S. military ID card; or
Adoption decree.

Does she have an insurance card? SS will accept that if the photo ID isn't available.

When my boyfriend and I moved to PA my boyfriend went through the same thing. It took almost 2 years before someone finally caved in and gave him an ID. He had a very difficult time getting a job without photo id and ss card.

However illegal immigrants can seem to come here and get jobs and documentation without a problem.

My mom went thru a similar thing, too. She was able to use her marriage license. She hasn't needed ID for anything in 10 years? When we go to the doctor, they ask for our insurance card plus ID. How about a previous year's tax return? Didn't you claim her as your spouse? I don't work outside the home but my SS# is on our tax return.

i went thru something almost similar when my apt. burned down i lost all my id's and it was very hard to get them back. i got the same run around, i finally went to the DMV and after several tries i finally got some one to believe me and he gave me and id card, then i could get my social security card and then license back. try taking her to a big discount store that does name and id's like a BJ's, or a voluntarily work at a hospital they will have to give her and id card also?? Just keep trying it is a pain, also maybe you can contact your local Red Cross or law enforcement they might have some idea also, good luck
