You'll never get anywhere that way...nurses follow the orders (written, etc.) of the doctors (give the patient this medication, etc.) and typically can't "do what they want" because they will lose their registration then.

However it's like anything, you will have some very experienced nurses who have been around more than some doctors. They have voiced their opinions to residents and other doctors when they see them doing something that is wrong.

On the flip side, you have to tell the nurse supervisor (charge nurse) or doctor if your nurse is not that experienced and is doing something wrong.

It's your body and your rights!

Not sure where you are coming from, but doctors and nurses and other members of the typical health care system are part of a team that couldn't function without each other. It's like asking who is more important, the director of an orchestra or the members of the orchestra? Doctors have more training and provide the guidelines and directions for care, but without the nurses that care could never be accomplished. Moving the patient through the system is no easy matter. So nurses are invaluable, but so are doctors.

No doctors are superior to nurses. They are both people who breath, eat and sleep. Each one has dedicated their lives to helping people who are physically ill. They both have had years of education that is continually improved. The only difference between them is the amount of money they make with their profession. Doctors do surgery, most nurses don't. Doctors form medical groups that specialize in one area of treatment, nurses don't. Some doctors think they are God, most nurses don't agree.

Everyone is doing his/her job.
There is no superiority or inferiority.

Whoever does his job in the best possible way is superior whether its a doctor, a nurse an orderly or a sweeper.
