Talk to your midwife and you may want to seek another doctor. It could be nothing but it could be pre eclampsia - you would also be suffering from hypertension (high blood pressure). It is not an indication of gestational diabetes - you would be passing high amounts of sugar. Although it can be a side effect of treating GD - not enough carbs to break down the proteins. Do you happen to be hypoglycemic (the opposite of diabetes)?

as you can see by all the different answers, there's several reasons you could have protein in your urine and it may or may not be a problem. It is a sign of pre-eclampsia but there are usually other signs too. If you're worried and your midwife doesn't seem to be, go to your general doctor; there's nothing wrong with getting a second opinion.

Pre eclampsia would give you other symptoms - edema (swelling of ankles, legs etc) and hypertension (high blood pressure).
If all you have is a little protein in yout urine its nothing to worry about really. Could be a simple infection, more common during pregnancy than normal. Best thing to do is ask the question of your GP and/or midwife, get them to explain it to you fully - at the end of the day even if its an infection you have that needs treated as well.
Hope this helps and good luck with the wee one!!! :)

I always had like a trace or a +1 level but they get really worried if it gets ti like +3 or +4 and then they will do a 24 hours urine test which is not fun. And then if your blood pressure goes up along with this, then they get worried and try and figure out what to do. I was induced with both of my girls for this reason. Good luck and ask lots of questions cause they wont tell you if you don't.

Yes, especially if you also have elevated blood pressure. I had preeclamsia my first pregnancy, but I was going to a pregnancy clinic where I saw a different doctor each time, so none of them picked up on it. When I was about 8 months along, I switched to a private OB/GYN because I was tired of being rushed through each appointment and when he checked my chart, he said that it showed I had been having protein in my urine and elevated blood pressure since my 5th month! Upon further monitoring, I was diagnosed with preeclamsia and put on bed rest, and I thank God that I switched practitioners, because who knows what could have happened?

I think it just means that there is a higher chance of you getting a urine infection or cystitis, they will know and act hopefully if the protein gets to an unusual level. I would try not to worry about it, but you are right many midwives are that busy that they dont manage to pick up on everything thats going on, so do remind them if you need to. Its your baby and your body.
GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATULATIONS

Pre eclampsia will often come on very suddenly and will include symptoms like sever headacvhe, lots of swelling in the hands face and feet. your MW will probably check every time now for a rise in protein levels. Try not to worry.

did you tell her that you had that last time? do you take in a pregnancy record book with you? ( i live in Australia, don't know where you live, you may not have them, but every time you see a doc or midwife they write down all your results from blood and urine test, bubs heartbeat ect so they have a record of it) if you are not satisfied with any medical advice you are given,,,ALWAYS see another doctor or midwife,,,,, its not worth the risk if you are unsure or have a funny feeling!
