I have 2 days to go until my due date and am extremely constipated. Should I proceed with an enema here at home or just let my body do its natural thing? I know the hospital I will be going to no longer makes you have one, which is great on their part. But, I'm just so nervous that my body won't clean me out in time for the pushing. What do you think?

i wouldn't worry to much now, you may have 1 or 2 weeks left of your pregnancy, when you go into hospital with your contractions i would tell the midwife then that you haven't been for a while and see what they want to do, if you did go while you are pushing, you wouldn't even know it, they wont make a point of telling you, and if you ask they will probably tell you that you didn't anyway,,,normally you get an upset tummy a day or two prior to going into labor, its your body's way of cleaning you out, some woman may not experience this at all,,,, but seriously, you may be worried now, but once you start getting those contraction pains,,,,,it will be the last thing on your mind! All the best!

Don't worry about it. I did not have an enema for any of my births. For my first, I was very worried about pooping and having a baby at the same time. I have since learned that it is fine and while you may poop just a bit while pushing, its not anything that is abnormal or unusual. Just try not to focus on it while pushing otherwise you will lose your concentration and prolong the labor.

My mom is a labor and delivery nurse and she says 80% of women still deficate while pushing. Don't worry about it too much, there is no modesty in childbirth. She says it's not a big deal, they always anticipate it and scoop it up and get it out of there fast...but enema or not, you'll run the risk. I personally would take one though, just so you feel more comfortable.

One of the signs of the onset of labor is diarrhea. Your body will most likely clean itself out when its time. Instead of an enema I would try eating a lot of fiber. Bran muffins, dried prunes or other fruit, etc. Drink a LOT of water along with it. Go out and walk. Good luck!

increase your fibre intake and drink a lot of water. But it will be good if you do not have anything in your intestines because the spasms puts a great deal of pressure on your abdomin and constipation will increase your discomfort.

Try increasing your fiber intake alot today, and see if that helps.... Funny but the body has a way of cleaning itself out before you go into labour (most times)......Don't worry.....You'll be fine.......Think of your beautiful baby coming, not your Poop!!
If you are not to far dilated....sometimes the hospital will give you something to "clean out"
Good Luck & Poop Luck!!

if it doesn't until you are pushing you will be to busy to notice or even really care.
if only two days before i wouldn't do it unless you feel a great need to. i mean not do it for comfort in labor purposes. you could still be pregnant for another couple of weeks

No big deal at all. ALOT of women do the "business" while pushing. Don't worry, you wont be embarrassed..you probably wont even know it happend if you do.
