I am desperate to get out of the country for a bit, even for a little weekend break to Europe. I really want to go with my boyfriend, as it wouldn't be the same without him, but he hates the idea of planning and going away. Every time I get on to the subject he gets very defensive and gets really stressed. It's so frustrating, as I know he'd love it and have a great time once we were there.
He says I'm impatient - I just think I'm spontaneous! What can I do?!

Mine hates going because there's always so many jobs to do at home, and he doesn't see why I need to 'run away'. This was solved when we went somewhere that had his hobby, but better.

Be prepared to put up with some trainspotting, golf or whatever is his thing - at least you'll enjoy meals out with him - to do all the research, planning, packing & arranging yourself, and to take the blame if the hotel isn't as it appeared on the website or the flight is delayed.

Have you got to the bottom of why the stress/defensiveness? Perhaps he hasn't admitted to a fear of flying, for example? Suggest boat or the tunnel & see how he reacts, or perhaps he's afraid of feeling 'lost' in a foreign place so you could try Jersey - familiar but different?

Btw my own fear of flying was overcome very simply - Paul McKenna's CD (he has a website). It reprogrammes you to enjoy flying, and I can now get on a plane without feeling sick & panicky.

Here's what you do ... go this time by yourself. Find some guy that is kind of friendly on the trip. No cheating or anything, just a fellow traveller. Have a few pictures taken with him. Give him a name like Georgio or something like that. When you get back tell him how wonderful the guys were on the trip when they found out you were travelling alone. And rave about "Georgio" what a gentleman he was, how interesting he was. And I will assure you your bf will be more than happy to go to the freaking Arctic with you on a moment's notice.

man thats so tough! i love holidays so i wouldnt like to be in your situation! Has he ever had a holiday? does he not like them because of a bad experience but doesnt realise it? I think i would try and think of all the things hes interested in and try and incorporate them in the holiday.. say for example.. if he likes the star wars movies.. take him to Tunisia where parts of the films were filmed? Or Maybe just tell him hes being selfish and to give it a try for your sake! its only a weekend! good luck :)

Give him some space. Men need their space an time to do things. If you really want to go plan a trip with your girly mates. He may come round when you have come back with amazing stories.

Just book something. Go on a city break somewhere quiet and ease him into the notion.

Maybe he is afraid of flying. Make sure you include something he loves in the holiday and he'll soon be persuaded!

Mine too.

I remind him about the scantily clad sweet young things on the beach and he changes his mind.
