you can set the job equal to some arbitrary number

24 men X 12 days = 100 widgets
so
24 men = 8.333333 widgets per day
and
1 man = .347222 per day

36 children X 18 = 100 widgets
so
36 children = 5.55555 widgets per day
and
1 child = .15432 widgets per day

So 4 men X .347222 = 1.38888 widgets per day
and 9 children X .15432 = 1.38888 widgets per day

so each day 2.77777 widgets are produced

100 / 2.7777 = 36days

12 is 1/2 of 24 making it that 1 man can do 1/2 day
18 is 1/2 of 36 making it that 1 child can do 1/2 day

9 +4 = 13.....and if 13 people can each work 1/2 day thats 13 divided by 2.....6 1/2 days :)

288 man labor days or 648 child labor days so 1 man=2.25 child
so 4x2.25days+9 days=648
18 days=648 number of days=36

6.5 days....i think.
24 men = 12 days....so..... 1 man = half a day.
36 children = 18 days ..... so...... 1 child = half a day

4 men = 4 x half days = 2 days
9 children = 9 x half days = 4.5 days

2+4.5 = 6.5

hope i got it right.
