There is some disparity between what men and women earn, but some of it is explainable by other factors. In order to train a worker, it requires alot of money. Thus, when a worker gets trained for a job, it is the goal of the employer to retain the employee, since replacing the employee would require more money to train the new person. Women are generally more likely to leave a job than their male counterparts. This is not necessarily saying anything bad about women. Just that when women have children, they are more likely to take time off from work or quit their jobs than men are. Thus, they are more costly to train from an opportunity cost, since the employer could have trained a male employee who would have likely stayed around longer. This cost is passed on to women in the form of lower wages. Studies have been done that show this accounts for a large portion of the disparity between wages for men and women.
