I KNOW EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT AND IT EFFECTS EVERYONE DIFFERENTLY BUT no word of a lie i bled every single day for 7 months had to take the pill aswell as the injection (whats the point in that?) to stop the bleeding as made me slightly anaemic was totally depressed and felt shite so came off of it and finally stopped bleeding for 4 months! However my friend swears its the best thing ever but she has put on at least 4 stone since shes been on it. Try it for 3 months and if constantly bleed give up it aint worth it. Oh yes and i started to lactate what looked like milk from my breasts!!! definitely not the answer for me!

When I started mine it was irregular during the first couple months. Lots of random spotting. I wouldn't say heavier though. After about six months I completely lost my period all together. It was very nice ;) Three years with no periods. I just stopped a few months ago because your not supposed to be on Depo for a long time because of the bone loss issue. And I want to start having kid in a couple years and I hear it can take a year or more to become regular again. Good Luck

I used to be on this injection, once in my early twenties and then again in my thirties. The first time it was a doddle, have no periods at all and only having to go every three months for the injection was bliss. Second time round I had nothing but problems, bleeding all the time non stop - and when I did stop it only came back the following day - I have to say I lasted only 6 months the second time round as I spent most of the time bleeding. I think it affects everybody differently. A friend of mine was on it and around the time she was meant to be due on each month she would turn into a psycopath. Hope it works for you.

I have just come off the injection. Period wise it was BRILLIANT. In just over 2 years I have only had 2. I did however have a massive scary bleed about 18 months ago. I was on holiday, out in the pub when I felt something wet and stood up. The blood literally poured down my legs and a slimy huge blood clot slithered down too. It was really horrible (and embarrassing). I was ok after that though. I actually came off it because my boobs became really sore and I went off sex completely. I have only been off it for a couple of weeks but feel much better.
Everyone is affected differently by all forms of contraception. Has it been explained to you how it takes approx 6 months to get completely out of your system? Just in case you are after a baby. There is no harm in trying it and seeing if it works for you

I have been having the Depo jab for over eight years, every 11 weeks. My periods stopped almost straight away and i have not had one since!. I do not suffer from any side effects, no headaches etc, for me the jab is perfect. The only thing is that i have been told by my doctor that taking it for long periods of time could cause osteoporosis, but i dont think this has been proven yet (please anybody correct me if i am wrong) and that if you want children, remember it does make you temporarily sterile, conceiving could take a while. Everybody reacts differently, try it for a couple of months and see how you go.

I know everyone is different, but I have had bad experiences on Depo-Provera and so has everyone else I know who has been on it. I suffered really bad depression and after my third jab bled heavily and continually for three weeks. I couldn't even go out of the house! It took me a long time to get the jab out of my system and remained depressed for a couple of months after I was due another jab. One of my friends had big problems conceiving a child after using the jab and it can cause infertility. Another of my friends was very badly depressed on it. I hope this helps you make your decision wisely. Like I say it is different for everyone else.

The plus side - it's really convenient to have to only get a shot every 3 months and not have to think about birth control in between.
The down side - Insomnia, weight gain, bone density loss, irritability (ok, so maybe that was there before). There are more side effects - these were the ones I experienced.
Seriously, check out the side effects before you go on it - there are definite pluses to this, but some major minuses.

I loved it,it was brilliant for me.
I stayed on it for 4 years mainly because of having no periods, but perhaps I was just one of the lucky ones judging by some of these answers.
My 2 daughters have tried it but came off it because of lack of libido and weight gain.
Theres a coil you can have fitted that stops your periods, why not ask about that instead, and if it doesnt suit you can have it removed straight away without having to wait 3 months for a jab to wear off.

i would say, no way! big mistake! i had so many side effects on it and have just come off it. i had head aches, spotting, acne. i wouldnt advise it at all. but as far as periods go, i didnt have any apart from the spotting and got my periods bk straight away after altho a little unusual as i was only on half a day, maybe they'll get better as time goes on. good luck.
