May i share with you my story:
1 year ago i was downloading mp3 files or some short video clips with limewire. at the time with Avira AntiVir Guard installed in my system thinking there's nothing to be afraid of virus bullet proof. and what happened was my I.E start malfunctioning and then next thing i noticed was windows going chaos and unable to boot my system again after shut off. The virus successfully passed thru the antivirus monitoring and contaminated my system (given that AntiVir is a very powerful software already).
Voila, had to pay $160 to fix my laptop.
I also didn't mention the story with my old PC that I had to backup reinstall the whole harddrive on my old PC (with norton antivir installed) due to a virus contamination from Limewire.
The repairer told me most of the systems that he fix there got their viruses from limewire or kazaa those p2p programs.
I think you should switch to downloading torrent files instead. Or if you H.A.V.E use limewire for some special files, only turn on the program during the download process and shut it off immediately after download, don't let it sit there on your system tray, it's too risky...

! It is perfectly safe as long as your antivirus software is up-to-date and effective. Scan every file that you download BEFORE you open it.
2 Limewire is not safe and carries viruses within the code of the program and as such puts your machine at a huge risk!
I say number 1 as I've been using it for months and always scan first - no problems.
Make your own decision.
Remember the anti-virus portion though!

use ares.... its better and cool as wel..
limewire can be good but you tend to get files with viruses now.... when you download make sure you have an antivirus, and check the file before opening....
before downloading a thing, just make sure the size is at an appropiate size... (eg a song might be 5mb, but the song you want is only 128kb) then hint its a virus... or something
so be very careful....

Limewire messed up my computer, but then I had Norton anti virus on it and apparently I have now been told that Norton is rubbish with packages like this. From what other people have said, if you get a good anti virus package then it should be fine.

http://www.limewire.com/ is the most used free file sharing site. make sure you have anti virus running before swapping any files. the free edition of avg available from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ does a good job. once you have installed limewire do a search for limewire pro. then install this and delete the original. pro is faster.

limewire is a good p2p sharing program but it takes alot of memory to download alot of products. It is effective and you can scan each file before opening right click and drop box to scan. Good luck...still would use all necessary precautions.

It is never 100% safe to download from a shareware program, but you will just have to be careful what things you are downloading, and make sure that you have a firewall and antivirus program running alongside. It would be much safer if you paid for it, but, if you are like me just be wary and you should be fine! :D
