It was working well before and if it is not now, then it's most probably the virus. You must check it with antivirus softwares like MCAfee etc.,
Otherwise, check the latest softwares you might have installed lately. Some of the multimedia softwares do poll the internet and do some work in the background that can cause the slowness.
And then check what is the top process that is consuming a lot of CPU and Memory from the taks manager.

I agreewith above answer (unload unused programs that only take up space on your computer). The things that also would help are doing routine maintenance...defragmenting, disk cleanup, dumping history and cookies, and skan disk for errors and fix. These all contribute to a slowing down of your machine. Also, if you download something and find your computer slower than normal, dump what you downloaded and run your virus and spyware programs to clean up what was slipped in with the download.

What do you mean by "my RAM is taking up much more time to load"? RAM doesn't "load"...
My suggestion would be to do a clean install of Windows and all your programs (take backups first), and possibly get some more RAM, or even a faster processor...

Hello,
You must have good program Anti-Virus. because viruses let the computer works bad. Try ( Avg anti-virus). Also, you must have good program spyware. You can try ( spyware doctor ) it is good program. Also, as I think that Xp Pro let the computer heavier, so I think you can try Xp Home edition if you don't care about the differences between them.
Bye.

Try running cleanup then defrag your hard drive.
Eliminate extra startup programs. Too much running in memor will slow the machine down. Increase the virtual memory too.
