crimals (depending on the crime) for example rapists should be given the chair and the same if you murder someone in my opinion, but "normal petty crime" yeah you prolly should be locked up but perhaps given the chance to further an education rather then watching tv all day long, or made to work for charity and do something helpfull, it's just a shame if you have a famialy that they also have to suffer and almost do your sentance with you * deep sigh of experiance*

I don't know the British court Systems but in America death is usually reserved for serial killers/rapists and being a traitor. Most of the time a criminal will get jail time normally. Some killers do get consecutive life sentences for each life they took in cases of manslaughter.

Get yourself locked away. After you have served a fraction of your sentence, you will let out. Then, with the aid of a Social Worker, get yourself a nice council flat and a grant of £1200 from the DWP to buy furniture etc. Tell them you lost your last home when you went inside. Complete bollocks, of course!.
Plenty of charities to help you find employment or better still, send your CV to the BBC. It seems most of their presenters and actors have been inside. You'll be made!.

The number of people being locked away is getting out of proportion to the number of the people in any given country. Yes lock you away for some crimes and just put you under house arrest for others. The new jails of tomorrow, your own bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. When getting sent to your room means for 5 years!

i dont know much about the british justice system but here goes...........in my opinion rapest and pedophiles should be marooned in anterctica with only 1 weeks supply of food and supplies murderers should be shot upon conviction drug dealers should o.d. upon conviction all other crimminals should be made to serve the public for life
