You can certainly ask him, I can assure you he will not tell the truth if he is.It will just make him aware that you know something is wrong, so he will need to be more cautious.
However, he may not be having an affair, the best thing is to lay your "cards on the table" and communicate with each other

Its mostly the same for both sexes, if he's a lier, then he will lie. The first thing to look for is there things that don't add up, taking him too long to get home from work, or store? Is there telephone calls that he doesnt want you to hear? Does he say he needs his own space? Working a lot of overtime, and not having the money to go with it?

no he wont tell you the truth if he is cheating then why do you care about the truth ? kick his sorry butt to the curb ,divorce him and get everything you can out of him . You know house, car, kids everything . My motto is they want to cheat then I am going to take them to the cleaners. good luck and I hope I helped.

Unless he really loves you (unromantically), he will tell you that he is cheating but if he is not in love you, he will only lie to you and become very agressive each time you bring up the subject.

my husband cheated and i never knew.. :( he talked so much about how he hated cheaters, and would never do such a thing. when i found a girls number in his phone he just said it was nothing, and changed the subject, i guess i was a little nieve really. he finally told me a year later what he did

Do an investigation. Or hire a P.I. to do one for you. Because you don't know for sure if he will tell you the truth. Or be man enough to admit to his mistakes.
