I think it depends no how she looks. Bear in mind the fact that she is at puberty age and may have a growth spurt at any moment. I also feel that at 11 she is at a very impressionable age so I wouldn't make her too conscious of her weight.

I think you should be able to tell by looking at her if she is overweight. If you feel she is a little, then for goodness sake don't comment! Just try and introduce more healthy food and have less biscuits/crisps etc around the place. You can always say that you want the whole family to eat more healthily! Never say the diet word, or go on scales in front of her. Try and introduce more exercise into her life too, if thats possible. You do need to watch her weight cos her life will be miserable at school if she is a plump teenager. She may be going to have a growth spurt. I have kept records on my girls' weights and heights - i used to weigh measure them once a year on their birthdays! and put it in a chart. I will see if i can find it and get back to you. She may be going to start menstruating soon too.

No! by god No! with a BMI of 20, your child is in the "healthy" zone. If she looks chubby/podgy remember that between the age of around 10-16 as part of puberty the body re-distributes weight. please don't put your daughter on a diet. remember you can also be healthy and classifiedas "obese," for example most rubgy players (proffesionals) are capable of getting around 13-16 on the multi-stage fitness test & yet have a BMI of 28-35, and even non-proffesional sportsmen/women can be fat&fit. Take my Dad- a Fire Service Officer with a heightof 5,7 and a weight of 15 1/2 stone manages to get 10 on the fire service "bleep" test. Dont put your daughter on a diet. please... (anyway, most boys find curvy girls attractive)... and as she will be getting to that age. ps im 15, height of 5 ft 2 and a weight of 9 and a 1/2 stone, but a waist of 24.5 inches. once any weight round tummy ect redistributes she will be fine &you wont worry! make sure she gets excersize & eats healthy anyways.

okok, i admit it, im a stupid american who doesnt know british measures...i'm not sure what u mean by 7/12 stone...if you divide that, you get 3.7 kilos which equals a little over 8 pounds (US)...if you mean 7 1/2 stone it seems a little more reasonable...lol i used a bmi calc that uses british measures...using 7 1/2 stone...she has a bmi (body mass index) of 20.8...that puts her in the 87th percentile...when they get to the 90 percentile, they are considered at risk for becoming obese. i might start getting a little concerned as to how she could be healthier if she were my kid...you and your daughter have the ultimate choice though.

It's 5 foot exactly. I'd say shes a little overweight for that age and height. My partner is 5'2" and 8 stone, but is twice her age ;) Contact your GP if you are concerned, and ask a dietician.
