I think there is this notion that men should be 'manly' and 'brave' the water etc but it's a bit stupid really. Personally, I don't wear gloves but that is because they annoy me. However, if you had an allergy to anything else, no one would expect you to touch it without protection so the people who make fun of you are pretty stupid in my view.

Washing up liquid? Dish washing or body washing? Either way, just tell them your girlfriend likes your hands, and say it with a sly smile.

I wear them all the time.
It protects my hands from the hot water - and it prevents the washing up liquid irritating my skin. And my hands remain soft.

No. It's fine. I once had a male housemate who wouldn't wash up because
he had eczema if his hands got wet/soapy . Then , he wouldn't wear washing-up gloves because they made his hands sweat , and that gave him eczema.
So he never washed up : so I rarely used the kitchen. Lazy b'stard. He even told me I should do it for him!!! Well really, I'm getting annoyed just thinking about it.....
You wash up, it will keep your relationship good....
Kudos to you...

you could try using some natural washing up liquid (http://www.naturalcollection.com/natural-products/Earth-Friendly-Dishmate-Washing-up-Liquid-for-Sens.asp?bID=6384335) so if it doesn't sting your hands, you wouldn't need to use gloves if it bothers you so much.
it's stupid that people make fun of you though....why shouldn't men use washing up gloves?! the girlfriends would be the first to complain if their men had rough hands!

Weird? no way! it's just survival...like me when you have an allergy you need to take the best precaution ever for your skin. If people make fun of you....so what! you do not owe them anything and certainly they're not the one who will help you heals if you burn your skin because of chemicals.
