I kind of remember a baby being left on a lady's doorstep and she ends up looking after it. I think she worked in a shop and I think it was either a customer or her boss (the token handsome male) who helps her out and they fall in love. I'm pretty sure it was in colour and that it had the word 'baby' in the title. Any help would be gratefully recieved as this has been bugging me for years!

I think I know what film you're talking about: The woman works in a department store, is needled by a guy she doesn't know who turns out to be the son of the family who owns the profitable store.

I believe he was being challenged in a semi-joking way by his family to participate in the running of the store. So, he became a sales clerk for a day or so when he ends up meeting her as a "fellow employee" and falling in love in with her in the hat/accessories department.

I think part of the plot concern was that it not be revealed that she is a "single mother" which, in those days, was synonmous with sinfulness and loose morals on the woman's part. She could get fired on the spot easily for such. And this, even though the child literally landed on her doorstep; she decided to keep him and make a go of it regardless...is that the movie you're thinking of?

Sorry, but I haven't got a single clue as to what the FREAKIN' name of that movie is....lol.

But, now you've got ME going trying to figure it out!!!!!! If it comes to me before it comes to you, I'll let you know.

Good luck--to both of us. We'll need it.

P.S,--The person above who says it's "Baby Makes Three" is incorrect, but she gave me a great clue from her plot description: I looked in Google, finding that the cast was all wrong and that the film I saw was certainly no musical.

I finally found that the movie we are thinking of was originally made in 1939 as Bachelor Mother.

Baby Makes3 was a later REMAKE, occurring in the mid-50's. I never saw the remake, but can't imagine that it was better, more clever, or more entertaining than the original, which was quite good and clever, indeed.
