Guatemala was inhabited by Olmecs until about 2000 years ago, when the Mayans took over. The Spanish invaded around 1500 AD, and made La Antigua Guatemala the capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala, which stretched from Chiapas Mexico to Panama. 99% of the Mayans succumbed to warfare and disease before the Kingdom vanished with independence from Spain in 1821. The indigenous ran independent Guatemala until the 1870's, when the Latinos took over.

If you are looking for a history of relations between Iceland and Guatemala, there has been almost none, which is unfortunate, because the Icelanders seem good at developing geothermal energy, and Guatemala has lots of untapped geothermal resources.

Iceland was discovered by Irish monks but being monks with no women they didn't have a genetic impact. What Ponca says about the Norsemen and the Irish women sounds accurate.
