I was registered with about 10 Agencies at one point to try and find a job. I only heard from 1 of them about a job that was no good - part of the city I was looking for work that they knew I could NOT get to.

Applying direct to employers is better, you have got more control over the areas you want to work in.

I found job agencies very useful - however some were obviously not really trying to match your professional skills against the job needs, and many didn't seem to really understand the language and terminology of the busnisses they were dealing with - so ended up wasting your time.

Got my present job through an agency.

As for which I prefer? Well you need to cover a lot of ground to find a job and it is impossible to catch all the available opportunities - this is where the agencies come in. They should have talked to the company about their needs. if they are any good they know your skills, wants and needs and by by linking you together save you a lot of failed approaches.

I still applied personally for any jobs I found for myself.

I would certainly use agencies again, but would be more selective this time around as most of them do not deal in my specialist area of work.

Employment agencies are specialized in providing trained and qualified people to fill vacant positions in the industry. The present scenario of the market is such that the IT companies want market-ready or experienced people to make the most of them. The IT employment agencies in London have databases of IT professionals that are categorized according to skills, specialties, achievements, experience etc. As per the requirements of the hiring companies, candidates are shortlisted and sent to the companies for interviews.
Choosing a recruitment agency can be quite tricky as almost all recruitment agencies essentially offer the same service. While choosing a staffing firm to handle the hiring or the human resources, you need to consider some basic points like reputation of the company, their previous performance record, capabilities and cost.

Some job agencies can be good, but also search and apply on your own.
Agencies that charge a fee should be avoided. Most agenciies get commissions from employers and are motivated, but as another answer said, they sometimes don't understand about specialist skills and technical qualifications.
The state employment agency is also worth contacting because they sometimes find out about government jobs first.

I would rather apply myself because you look into the jobmore than if you were going through an agency

I would not not relay solely on agencies to find you a job. Though they are good for temp work (if you don't have regular bills to pay). I time the I register, the job I went to see them about has oddly "been filled". Funny enough I was going to register with another one this afternoon but realise it will probably be a waste of time so am not going (its quite far also).

In the UK I had some very positive experiences with Job agencies. I live in Spain now and have had no luck at all but that could be my dodgy spanish. I work for myself now anyway so I don't care much anymore.

agencies are ace they let you try a firm out and vice versa so dont be afraid but use it to your advantage if you dont like a job just tell the agency you are not prepared to go back there and you may find a cool job which if you are suitable for them may get it offered to you

follow greater companies including manpower, snelling, and officeteam and practice to as many as you have on your area. I worked for all 3 of them. I preffered snelling out of all 3, although I had to %. up my examine they did no longer grant direct deposit which replaced right into a worry yet they provided the wonderful positions out of all of them. pay attention of companies searching for costs, do no longer pay for something if somebody chooses to hire you it relatively is going to no longer value you a dime. in case you could decide for between your assignments (i.e. dissimilar openings) pass with a greater agency, they are greater probable waiting to hire you than a smaller agency, using fact once you're provided complete time employment with a agency there's a extreme value for them to hold you in. mutually as temping proceed to look on your individual. Temping is a robust thank you to income journey in diverse areas and locate out what you choose for to do. draw back is not any reward or very costly ones and human beings have a tendency to handle "the temp" snotty at situations (it in basic terms comes with the territory).stable good fortune!
