my nan passed away, and the company i work for has only offered me 1 day to grieve, despite me living with her and needing the time to find a new place to live and empty the my current flat. Does the law entitle me to more time or is tihs all I'm allowed?

I am assuming you mean bereavement.

I think an employer would offer 1 day's bereavement leave to attend the funeral of a close relative, I don't think they are obliged to give you any more leave to grieve etc.

If you are having difficulty coming to terms with her death I would take some more time off work but you would probably have to take it out of your annual leave or take leave without pay. Visit your GP if you are finding it difficult to cope.

I do not think you can expect your employer to give you additional leave to clear out the home and find a new place to live.

Ask Citizens Advice or search on line for Bereavement Leave, Employers obligation etc.

UPDATE : I think you are entitled to 3 days according to this link:

It is at the discretion of your employer. Usually they'd give you a couple of days to grieve but, time to move out and sort life after your lose, doesn't apply. Sorry.

I am sure you are entitled to 3 days but explain to your employer the circumstances I am sure they will understand. All the best & take care.

It used to be a week for those arranging the funeral, three days for any other CLOSE relatives (children, siblings) and ONE day for other relatives. Grandparenets aren't close enough to qualify for the three day - but you could always ask to take some of your annual leave entitlement.

I don't think there is any obligation unless the person who has died is a parent, child, sibling or legal guardian (this applies to 'step' relatives too). Sorry.
