windows defender. If your pc is running slow it may be due to something other than spyware . scan for viruses and run tune up program to help get pc back in shape. I use tune up utilities 2007. its a great program wich doesnt cost much. you can get a free trial though.

spybot s&d is a very reliable tool in removing spyware.
not finding anything is a good sign, but you should consider having 2-3 anti-spywares for scanning your computer like, ad-aware, avg anti-spyware.
At least once or twice a week, scan with all your anti-spyware applications on safe mode.
But always remember to update each antispyware software to ensure safety.

Spybot S&D is a very good program, most times it doesn't find anything on either of my computers but on the odd occassion it does and it removes them for me. I also use Ad-Aware SE (free version) to check for spyware, it is also very good as it finds spyware my antivirus' spyware checker misses,
