It's for a birthday present. I wanna get him dj equipment. What are the basics u'd need if u wanted to be an ameteur dj? And can anyone recomend a good brand of decks?

Gemini is great for a budget... I'd stay away from Numarks... but that is just my experience talking... they tend to be noisy.

I'd say two tables and a mixer with balanced cables or RCA unbalanced...

mixer, i'd say Rane (really nice and quiet of noise)... of course Vestax is THE best.

but honestly, what kind of music is the dj going to work with? if they are scratching you need to get a battle deck...

needles are an important consideration as well.
