I would hire an attorney. This group owes you wages and there are many laws dealing with this issue. The bigger issue is that you were defrauded by this group when they gave you a check on an account they knew to be closed. This may need to be reported to the police. Lastly if this was a philanthropic organization they were being given tax advantages and you may want to report them to the IRS. I feel if they are willing to defraud employees what are they willing to do to the people who donate money to them and to the government. Make sure you document every conversation with them. I would no longer speak to them in person I would let my attorney speak for me.

This guy sounds like a crook who had no intention of paying you. First, go to the county court house and talk to someone in the district attorney's office. If you swear out a complaint against this man, he may be arrested. What he has done is illegal.

You should also go to the state employment office and explain all this to them. They may be able to help.

To actually get money from him, you may have to sue him in small claims court. You don't need a lawyer, but you will need evidence or witnesses to prove your case. Collect all paperwork you have about the job and write down all the details you remember about what he told you about the job and when. List everything you did for him and all the people you were in contact with while working for him. Get copies of his fraudulent check from the bank and the details about why your account was closed. If you have nothing in writing about the job you'll need to find people who you dealt with as an employee of this man who can say they saw you working there.

Believe one lie, shame on him, believe 2 lies, shame on you. STOP talking to him PLEASE!!! Call wage and hourly in your state, you have to look the # up in your state. Have a calendar or booklet with all the days and hours worked. If you agreed to work under the table and he didn't take out any taxes, probally screwed. Call the BBB at least to report him, maybe they can help, but you can't get blood from a turnip. Tell your brothers and they'll go kick his ash. Ask the bank for the check back and ask for the manager and see what she says about going after him, he committed fraud not you and i know of ppl who were in jail for writing bad checks. Call small claims court in the county where it occurred, they advise you over the phone too....forget about the IRS, I reported a woman who owed be a thousand dollars and they don't give a rat's ***. She also forged my taxes the previous year, I caught it and blew it off as a mistake, she knew exactly how to me and knows how to screw everyone.

You have some very good answers. But you say he's a philanthropist? I wonder if he'd like the local media to know how he funds his philanthropy?

Just a thought.
