It may mean a lot depending on the person who said it. As they say, there is no such thing as a disembodied knowledge. Relating that to the question, any statement should not be interpreted apart from the speaker of such statement. But generally speaking, being sweet in your own way means that your efforts merit a certain degree of sweetness based/relative to your own ideas/standards/meaning of what is being sweet. In short, one act may be sweet for the doer but not necessarily for the receiver of the action. One unfortunate mishap that seems to be the origin of a lot of misunderstanding. =p

For me, when a person says you are sweet in you own way he/she meant to say that he/she likes you the way you are, without any hesitation.

He probably does not find you THAT sweet, but he does not want to sound rude. He appreciates you and does not want to hurt your feelings, anyway. Nice for a friend. Not nice for lover!

it means they like you, but they don't like you 'in that way'. it's kind of a condescending thing to say, though!
