I wouldn't call what happened between Jade and Shilpa racist. I know what racism looks like. What I saw was a person that doesn't like an indian girl. Jade needs to travel, mix with different cultures more often and learn.

It would be difficult for Jade to be racist when her own father has a brown skinned parent.

I am pleased Jades perfume has been removed from the shelves, that her DVD has been exposed as a fake (because she actually had liposuction before making it) - I'd be suing her now if I'd bought it. That Danielles contract has been cancelled and the sponsors Carphone Warehouse have removed their ads (one less to watch). People need to know that not only is this country fed up of people bullying others but that we will stand up in the end and say enough is enough.

Racism is born out of ignorance, not just Jades. I think she was only using racist coments against Shilpa cause she doesnt like her, rather then aiming it at an entire nation. She's not that deep/thoughtful. Danielle showed more signs of racism, I thought, saying Shilpa should go home. She had no answer in the diary room. If she'd said she meant go home as in away from the BB house she's have said so, surely?!
I dont think Shilpa's squeaky clean anyway. She's as much of a stirrer as Jade.
They're all guilty of being anoying. Gas the house (but put Jades mum back in first!)

Bigotry and racism is usually born out of ignorance. You only have to look at some of the questions posted on this site regarding religion. Especially about Jews and Muslims.

Racism often grows out of ignorance, but ignorance per se is not a sufficient condition. One may be ignorant about the other person's culture without feeling racist towards them. On the other hand, one can know a great deal about a culture and its people, and then form very racist views about them. Some anthropologist who have studied closely tribal (or other) people and know more about them than the average person have come away with racist views about their subjects.
Many people harbour racist views without sometimes being aware that such views are deeply offensive, and, therefore, racist. I suspect that some of the BB housemates fall into this category. They would deny that they are racist. It's like telling one of them that she is a Nominalist or Existentialist. She would not know what you are talking about. They are racist without knowing it. In that sense, their racism is founded on ignorance. But it is likely to be based on their complete 'frog-in-a-hole', ignorant existence - in the sense that you are implying.

As exhibited by Jade - yes it is. But other things, especially self-interest and greed, can spawn it to. It was financially profitable for Arabs and Europeans to trade in slaves, so they adopted attitudes that black people were in some way inferior and deserved what was done to them - and captured black people as slaves to make money. I do think that Jade is an uncivilized person - but do remember that she has made very big money by parading her ignorance.

when jade was first in big brother, she was bullied by adele, no one accused adele of being racist towards jade...jade has made her name through her lack of education, everyone thought it was ok to mock her stupidity and ignorance but now they wont tolerate it! hypocritical. the problem lies in the fact that someone like her with no talent whatsoever is allowed to hold such importance, and the tabloids are responsible for that. no wonder she is how she is, in fact, with a mother like hers its a wonder she turned out as well as she has!

Probably, but I don't think it's about racism at all. I think it's about class. Goody is working class; Shetty is middle/upper class. But if racism is hard for Brits to talk about, class is impossible, so no-one mentions it

I dont think she's racist she just doesn't like her and doesn't realise that the way she is behaving is wrong. She things she is entirely right. So yeah maybe ignorance or maybe her sense of right and wrong.
