according to Radio1 Chris Moyles show any track from Napster , Itunes etc is eligable. i.e. Billy Pipers 'Honey to the Bee' and Dexys Midnight Runners 'Come on Elieen' - these arent current songs and havent been re released but would go in the top 40 if enough copies are downloaded.

Shouldnt all music be eligable as that would be a true indicator of what the nation is listening to? or is the Top40 just a marketing medium?

Surely sites that are charging need to be affiliated to the people that control the Top 40?

Every tune that is downloaded from a subscription download site is eligible for the top 40. With the old system, only singles that were on release to buy in the shops were elibible for the charts. In January they changed the system so that all downloaded tunes, including oldies and album tracks, can potentially make the charts.

Yes, all music is now eligable for top 40 download, but only from charging sites. If you're downloading free tunes, these will not be counted

I thought that it was all music that was downloaded from recognised sites on the internet involved in the scheme like iTunes etc, but had to have been made avaliable as a CD/LP/SS single at some point.
