A few examples may be helpful:-
Example 1
Test result = 30/50 which becomes 30/50 x 100% = 60%
Example 2
10% reduction in price of a £12,000 car wil be given by 10/100 x 12,000 = £120
Sale price = £12,000 - £120 = £11,880
Example 3
Well known percentages are :-
a) 10% = 10/100 =1/10
b) 20% = 20/100 = 1/5
c) 33(1/3)% =33(1/3) /100 = 100/300 = 1/3
d) 50% = 50/100 = 1/2
Example 4
Calculate 33(1/3) % of £360.99
= (1/ 3) x £360.99 = £120.33
Hope above examples give you a start.

"percent", when we break it it becomes per cent
cent means 100
so percent means out of 100
multiply the fraction with 100
like
u want to find out how much 20/40 makes in percentage then
20/40 x 100 = 50%
or 30/75
30/75 x 100 = 40%

OK my boy, think of it like this
% means out of a hundred,
so any number you divide by 100 is 1% (ie. 340 divided by 100 is 3.4 - which is 1% of 340)
So after you have divided and found 1%, then you can times that by the percent you are looking for to find the answer.
Is that helpful?
