Hi, if you are in SA, depending on the city you are in, I would give you info on where you can get the courses done. Know, you don't need a diploma in accounting. you need basic book keeping skills that you can get in one week really. Then you can do Pastel accounting, which is computerised bookkeeping, you can do that in one day in most places in JHB and PTA. In DBN there are colleges that do that as well but you have to pay a bit more. You can do it through INTEC if you fancy doing it from home. Their course is reputable.

About Tax, Vat, PAYE... You just need to get your hands on the SARS booklets. Don't stress, they are very helpful. They will guide you step by step. You won't be the accountant, but the bookkeeper, so don't worry yourself. As long as you enter everything properly, you will be fine. Also try eFiling for SARS, makes your life much easier. I hate paperwork.

Keep your invoices neatly and pay your creditors on time, chase your debtors during the month so your books will be balanced at the end of the month when you do you cashbook.

There are computer packages that you can buy that might be well suited for your business, ask around. From other plumbers, for the name of the software they use. Or if you want just stick with Pastel, works greatly in SA as it is widely used.

All the best, happy bookkeeping!!!!

You need to study bookkeeping or accounting which you could do at any university. You could either do a full on degree or just a diploma which will take only between 6-9 months with no more than 2 lessons per week. Good luck!

I suggest you advise your boyfriend to employ a competent accountant as for now to ensure all his books and statutory obligation are in order. You can be his/her assistant and reserve enough time for yourself to study. Oh, almost forgot, CAT would do it, perhaps later you would fetch higher like ACCA or CIMA.
