I didn't get to see scary things as a child. However, Romper Room , a child's show in the 60's had this episode where a boy drowned and they were giving him cpr. I was 5 and didn't understand this. My mom was always sleeping til 10 am so she really wasn't there to explain it to me. I had nightmares at night. I thought that the people hurt the child. I didn't realize that they were helping him. I also used to get freaked at some scary commercials they would have on about smoking. My mom is a smoker so I was afraid she would die.

The movie "May" starring Angela Bettis. Eventhough it had limited release in 2003 and may be difficult but not impossible to find, It was rated four stars and proclaimed to be one of the best horror movies ever by Roger Ebert movie critic of the Chicago Sun Times.
If you want something more subtle but so cold blooded that you will never forget, try the Classic (Peter Jackson's break through movie) Heavenly Pleasures starring Kate Winslet.

Legally Blonde, 1 and 2
*shiver*

seriously, though, as a kid it was the ending of Friday the 13th. I used to listen to a classical station to get to sleep (what a geek, I deserved the nightmares) and I would wake up in a sweat anytime a piece would come on that reminded me of the music that played while she was in that canoe, and I'd be litteraly transported in my mind onto Crystal lake, sure that young Voorhees was gonna pop up at me any second.

All horror films--I can't go see them, because I can't get the pictures out of my head. To this day, I can still see the closing frame of Vincent Price's "The Pit and the Pendulum" which I watched while babysitting when I was 13 (big mistake!) I also got sick from looking at a still photo of "Alien" once. (Imagine what would have happened if I actually saw the movie?)

That would be Maximum Overdrive. Having dreams where cars and trucks came to life while you're standing in a parking lot was nightmare-ish enough.

as a kid it was Frankenstein, I remember to this day a recurring nightmare where the monster chased me through the neighborhood and no matter how fast I ran he was always right behind me, the dream would end as I reached the back porch with his outstretched hand just about to grab me, I bet I had that dream 100 times or more....

IT - the one with the clown that lives in the sewer and takes children.

When I first saw it, scared the crap out of me, I was about 16, but the worst thing was, it was shown over 2 nights, so in order for me to find out what happened, I had to keep watching a second night. Making me even worse.
