Philadelphia is a lovely old city with beautiful buildings, some cobbled streets and many historical landmarks.

Take a horse/buggy ride, you will also need to visit the (cracked)
Liberty Bell.
Or just walk the cobbled streets and soak up the historic atmosphere.

The Institute of Contemporary Art is a must see.
Go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, (one of the largest art museums in the US) and run up the steps that Rocky did.
Visit Independence Hall (where the Declaration was signed)

The first zoo in the US is in Philly too.

If your into visiting people's homes, you can see Edgar Allen Poes and Betsy Ross's.

If you're looking for a great sushi restaurant and don't mind dropping a couple of dollars definitely check out Pod. Their website is: www.podrestaurant.com

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a must-see, from the infamous "Rocky steps" outside to the actual exhibits that they have inside. Their website is: www.philamuseum.org

If you'd like to see a more "Unique" museum check out the Mutter Museum... if you're not easily grossed out it's a very unique museum with exhibits that explore medical anomalies (such as conjoined twins). Their website is: www.collphyphil.org

There are 3 main areas that are great to wander and shop and eat... they are the Old City Area, the Rittenhouse Area, and the South Street Area. Northern Liberties is also an up-and-coming area in the city with lots of bars and restaurants.

I visited Philadelphia in March 2001. A cute city with old buildings dating back 300 years old are there. I found following 4 attractions.
1) Freedom Bell.
2) A horse/buggy ride on a sunny afternoon, showing you the various buildings where original government of USA worked after independence and where various scientists like Graha, Bell etc lived.
3) A visit to the museum.
4) Just roaming around the city on foot.

Philadelphia is a real cool place to be. Yes, it is famous for it's historical sites and museums and stuff but it offers a lot of free stuff also. Free music on the Parkway and other venues around town. The jazz is to die for. A lot of cultural happenings also. There's is no place on earth that you can get a "real" hoagie or cheesesteak. South street in Philly is like no other. People come from all over to experience it. Some very good restaurants also. Did I mention the Avenue of the Arts. Wow!

Since you asked for something unique, you might try the Mutter Museum, its the museum of the College of Physicians. Basically, it's a collection that was used to teach new physicians about the human body and medical anomalies -and now its open to the public.
Learn more on their website at: http://www.collphyphil.org/mutter.asp

For sushi you might try Morimoto's (you remember- the Iron Chef)
http://www.morimotorestaurant.com/
(You may not want to go there right from the Mutter museum, though.)

Have a good visit!

www.gophila.com -->Official visitor's page

www.phillyist.com --> a good resource for shows going on around town, and a lot of random things too

http://foobooz.com --> Food blog for Philly...lots of links too

As far as sushi goes, I know I've heard a lot about Koi, on 2nd Street in Northern Liberties. It's very easy to get to by train as well...the Spring Garden Street stop on the Market-Frankfurt (Blue) Line...one of our subways. That's a great line too, as it goes from the river, through Old City, through Center City and up through University City, after a stop at 30th Street Station. There's also the Broad Street Line, but there around too many attractions along that...it does end at the sports complex though.

Back to sushi though...there's Koi and Morimoto. There's also a place called Pod in University City. If you like Italian, hit Ralph's on 9th and Catherine. Kind of out of the way, but that's what makes it one of the best places to eat in the city. Do the Pat's and Geno's thing, but do yourself a favor and get a cheesesteak from one of the local joints if you like cheesesteaks...they're different, and in my opinion, the local places are better, but it's almost mandatory to hit those spots. 3am is when it's busiest.

Try and make it to the parks, especially if it's nice outside...Rittenhouse, the Art Museum and surrounding areas, etc. I think the Art Museum is one of the nicest spots in the city...so scenic. There's plenty to see inside and even more on the outside of the museum. Also, a lot of the places like the Mutter Museum (medical oddities), the Franklin Institute and some more museums are all walking distance from there.

Hit South Street to for the novelty. Might be fun for you...if not, Market Street and Old City is a short walk away.

If you're coming around St. Patty's Day, keep an eye out for the Erin Express. It's a bar crawl throughout Center City and usually gets nuts...lots of people, all driven to the next bar for free on a bus.
