Only 1 at a time can dial out... you've only got one phone line, so only 1 call can be made at a time.

BUT if you network the computers you can use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) which was in Windows from about win98 onwards to let the one that dialled out act as a proxy server for the other one.

What you need to do this is to connect the two together with some form of networking... two ethernet cards and a crossover cable is probably the cheapest way but a USB crossover lead and software would be possible as well. If you are really lucky your PCs will already have ethernet adapters (it's like a big RJ45 telephone jack with 8 wires in it) so all you need is an ethernet crossover lead. On the one that will dial out you start up ICS... and it either tells you how to set the other PC up to share the connection or it makes a floppy disk that will do the changes on your other PC.

Will it be slower? Yep, as both of you are sharing your 56k then it wil be slower... depends what you're doing by way of surfing. It also will be slower 'cos the PC that is doing the dialout will also be doing extra work... so use your faster PC for this job.

As for DSL costing a lot... the cheapest ADSL lines in the UK cost *less* than an unlimited dial-up pre-pay subscription. It may be cheaper for you to go ADSL than stay dial-up. Check you 'phone bills to see how much you spend on dial-up!

the answer's to position in a house community. you want to both: (a) configure a laptop to act as a relay gateway on your different 2 computers (b) purchase a router that helps dial-up operations and then purchase an ethernet hub and cord or wirelessly hook up the different 2 computers to the ethernet hub. With the router or gateway laptop (no longer kind call) that handles each of the site visitors out to and lower back in from the internet. That way you may both be on jointly, even though it would want to be slow at cases. yet another determination will be to purchase a broadband cellular card and plug that into the computers. Or hook up your cellular phone to the laptop and use the cellular phone because the phone line. cellular phones can act as modems for computers at somewhat slow speeds, like 9600bps, 14.4k and 28.8k phones with facet and GSM on it would want to get iDSN speeds like 128k and 256k and better.

Get an crossover ethernet cable, and creat a peer to peer network with both of your computers (LAN), then connect the main computer to the internet (dial up) this should be able to connect both of your computers to the internet

not sure if it will work but you can go to like radio shack or walmar and get a little part it plugs into your phone jack and gives you two outlets usually used or phone and answr machine .. but you could run both the lines into a computer and connect with dial-up .... worth a try though.
