Its bcoz givers are at the other end(not a joke but the reality).Parents think girl children as a burden(still there are parents who think girls as a burden in this modern India).So to remove that burden,they offer the man riches.
Its like a bussiness transaction over a company under debt.Buyer pays off the debt,takes the company,its present raw materials,workers & all thats needed to run the company again.And the saler is ready to do anythig the buyer says so as to pay off his debt.
