Why do you think so?

Some ways better: education globally is better, communications globally are getting better, technology globally is making our lives easier.
Some ways worse: overpopulation, political bickering, war, famine, etc.,... all brought about by the same things.
A tool is neither good nor bad, its the person's use of it that is good or bad. A knife can help you to cut your vegetables making eating easier. On the other hand, it can also be use to stab someone.
I don't think the world is better or worse, just faster paced and more intense.

World is getting better and better for mankind. It is evident from historical observations. That, how it was, and how it is now, and how many evolutionary steps it has undergone to reach to this stage. People keep contributing towards the better of this world, and this is the tradition of nice people. However, many are at work for making it worse. But, in the race, better things have always survived and bad things have been condemned and vanish away/disappear with time. Whatever is good endures more.
This is a kind of phenomenon, I have observed. I think, the Creator has set forth this trend of evolution on this planet. Which people are keeping track of it.
Nations, who opted for seclusion and iron curtain from the evolving tradition of human society, could not be seen now on the map. So everyone must stay in the stream, for, it is going towards a better world.

Its getting worse. Its strange actually for such a catastrophe to happen. Human or mankind are considered as a complex multicellular organism and possesses the ability to think and make right decisions. And yet they spoil their own earth. Not realizing that this may cause the extinction of human or mankind......mankind sometimes just can't control their "cleverness" properly.

People are getting smarter, technology is getting more complex but at the same time more user friendly, our rights are respected more than they were two centuries ago, medical science can even guarantee that they can sustain your life till you are 100yrs old! and so on and so forth. As for the side effects of the these advancements, ask yourself if you can trade off your life for an equivalent life in Adolf Hitlers time.
Life is certainly getting better.

I think the world is getting better in some ways but worse in others it all balances out i think.

Better and worse.
Better because technology we humans invented has make our lives easier and more comfortable.
Worse because the Earth we live in is more worse with all the global warming issues.

The world is getting better and better.
We have all the conveniences of life like electrical, mechanical and electronics items, mode of transportation and entertainment.
However, human mind is the cause of joy and sorrow and at any period of time, it is the individual thinking about life that matters.

Folks don't go blind and die from VD any more. Polio is practically wiped out. No Small Pox. Lots of very cheap food.
How could anyone not say it's better?
