It's my birthstone. Does it really have the ability to cure ailments of the loins and kidneys or is this just a Chinese old wives tale?

As with many of these things it depends. If you're a straight out realist then perhaps birthstones won't do much but if you have some faith then who knows...
Personally any kind of Jade but especially the loud dumb kind gives me a splitting headache.

Certainly its precious if made as an artifact and Antique , however in recent years it has been used as a commercial product in small quantities which really have little value or interest except for those who manufacture for profit.
Personally i wish the stone had not been exploited . It is a nice gem .

I think if you believe in something strong enough you can will things to happen. Some people cant just believe that they will get better, (because you cant see faith) they need to have something physical to aid them in this. I dont believe it is the Jade or any other stone or crystal that has powers, it is the power of belief and the faith in your heart.

i don't know about curing aliments, but wear jade if i know i'm going to have a stressful day because it helps to keep you connected to your inner peace!! hope that helps if not try logging on to about.com, they have a whole section on holistic healing and gemstones x
