Personality has more to do with temperament and Character has more to do with integrity. Personality is innate, Character is learned. They are both defining attributes of who we are.

Personality is the visible aspect of ones character as it impresses others, is a person as an embodiment of a collection of qualities and is the sum total of the physical, mental, emotional and social characteristics of an individual. Personality is the quality of being a person, existence as a self-conscious human being and personal identity

Character is the aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person and is an account of the qualities or peculiarities of a person with reference to behavior or personality. Character is one such feature or trait, moral or ethical quality, reputation, qualities of honesty, courage and the like.

I think personality can change. Its an outward view of thier feelings.

Character remain a live long attribute as i thing its based on a persons life-values, which generally don't change.

for example, my personality can change from happy to sad, bubbly to introspective. People and community can change this

However, my character will always be one of consideration, law-abiding, helpful, vegetarian. I doubt there is anything that would happen to me that would make me a selfish person or eat meat, i often end up loosing out in favour of other people - its in my nature to put others first. And i would die of starvation on an island full of meaty resturants. There is nothing that would persuade me to eat meat.

"witchfromoz" said it far better than i did

O don't really think there is a difference in everyday conversation. You can say someone has a complex personality or a complex character (or 'nature' for that matter). Dark personality, dark character; pleasant, shallow, obnoxious etc.
Maybe in Human Psychology they might be used in specific ways, but for me there's little or no difference in meaning.

you get "character actors" and talk about characters in a story and in this context it's understood that the character in question is fictional.
You cannot exchange the word "personality " into this context.
