They're organizations of social assurance based on the ridicule of those who aren't in them. In other words, they exist to make bolster the members' egos by shunning everyone else

From those that are in them, the are the best things since sliced bread. A great way to make instant friends and networking and connections to last a lifetime.

For those who would like to be in them, they're even better.

For those that were rejected or have no interest in joining, it's a spoiled rich kid's club full of slackers and trust fund babies.

they are rediculous. get some real friends ... that don't have to haze you to get in or require you to do life-threatening things.

social groups are good, but the perception of the type of groups you mentioned are way off, kinda like the jocks from revenge of the nerds lol
