I am planning to apply for an open management position in the office where I work. When my boss announced the position, she said that anyone who wanted to be considered should submit a 'letter of intent.' I had been planning on submitting an updated resume and cover letter that outlined why I would be best for the position how my expereince would help our office / the company move forward and grow. Is this this same thing? when I google 'letter of intent' all I get is legal businessy stuff, and how to write a letter designating who your children's guardians will be if something happens to you... nothing about applying for a promotion within a company. Please help????

a letter of intent in this case would be what qualifications and experiences and why you want the job ( i.e. I look forward to undertaking the challenges or a new task or resposibility) chances are your boss already has your resume but it doesn't hurt to include it along with your letter of intent depending on the size of the company bigger include reumse small company don't

I could help more if I knew the type of company or job you are going for. But here's a hint: Google "sample letter promotion" followed by a word which would narrow the hits to just your field. There are many sample letters available online.

Be sure your letter includes why you deserve the promotion, and make it convincing that they're getting a good deal.
