I second WISE OWL's advice especially regarding Royal Holloway. It's in Surrey btw. But the A-level grades required are very high due to demand. Roehampton is good for English, and specialises in Children's Literature if you are interested in that. They hous the Chilren's Literature Collection which is just fantastic.

The best university for English in central London is University College. Near London, it is Royal Holloway.
Bear in mind that accommodation in the London conurbation is very expensive and there only is a very limited number of places in halls of residence. Also courses in English are extremely oversubscribed and therefore one's chances of being accepted by the best rated establishments are lessened. Good luck!
