Why is racism popularised by Reality television?

In light of recent events We have seen how shilpa shetty was confronted on television...Why does this happen and why is it considered so cool to do it??? Why do people have to discriminate on religion and colour??This question is out to all those who hate racism

I think many times instances of racial or religious hate are aired for mere shock value. Issues such as colour and religion command a lot of attention from the public and the media recognises this. This kind of high focus only strikes division among us. People start distinguishing themselves from others (whether physically or psychologically), old and painful ideas are reinforced, and race and religion become labels that people use to define each other outside of situational context.

Racism is ridiculous. I really can't understand how someone could possibly be hated because of their physical appearance. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to comprehend it. Racists are ignorant, backward individuals who are so devoid of self-esteem they have to rely on something as completely irrelevant as the colour of one's skin in order to feel a sense of worthiness. People should ignore persons like this. They don't deserve the publicity they receive.

Why should one go and watch reality TV, to see the racists? Here, in these columns, we see some racists, who think they are supreme and others are not and make certain low level comments. These racists by their remarks, show to the world, how degraded they are!! One should not heed those remarks also. There is a saying that nothing will happen to an Elephant, if the Dogs bark at it.

I did not see the show to which you are referring, since I do not watch reality television. But, I did want to say that you can put me down in the "hates racism" category.

i love reality tv. i know that some of the situations and or words are scripted. but the reactions are real and what people do in those situations are real. that is what makes reality tv so fun. you could sit there and watch regular programing with fake people reading lines that have the perfect joke at just the right time. Or you can watch real people in somewhat sit-up situations but with real reaction and their real feels exposed.
