What do you think should be done to curb this problem

There are two problems involved in your question.

The first problem, whether it's legal or not, morally wrong, or as I say, "it's a short in the wiring somewhere" there is a market for this crap. If there weren't people endeavoring to view it, buy it, and whatever else they do with it, it wuldn't be on the net.

The second problem, that I've experienced personally, is that most of the idiots that produce this crap are from former Eastern Bloc countries. Either the countries haven't gotten around to making it illegal, don't care, or haven't got the resources to arrest the scum.

I used to spend a lot of time on something called Usenet. If you don't know what that is, it's similar to an industrial strength email program, or for the old guys, it's like the old bullitin boards.

I subscribed to a Detroit Lions football group.

This is a sports group talking about a football team, for crying out loud!

All of a sudden we were flooded with all this pedo crap.

It just appeared one day out of nowhere. I opened up my news reader, saw this weired string of messages, and I opened one up. Suddenly I'm staring at a naked girl that looked to be about 10 or 11 years old!

Now with Usenet, there are a couple things you can do to send complaints. At best, all we could do was prevent them from uploading on one particular server. The only problem is that there are thousands of Usenet servers all over the world, big deal!

We think that that with one of the pedo porn'ers we got their local ISP's to cancel their account. They just switch ISP's...

We found that there was no way to stop them from uploading their crap.

And lastly, one individual that was in the group made the mistake of emailing one of the pictures to his local FBI office. I can't verify this, but as the story goes, a couple weeks later, three suits came to his house, and confiscated his computer.

It was only after they found no other porn on his computer, other than the sent email to the FBI, and they also discovered all the "abuse notice" emails he sent.

I can't confirm this is true, but if it is, that is just unbelievable. We're just a bunch of guys that want to talk football. Suddenly we are inundated with this crap, and one guy wants the FBI to know what's going on, and he's treated like he's the criminal!

And before the Internet when you were not so aware, is that better? You think that evil just popped up because MySpace.com was invinted? Do you mean curb the porn on the net, so, you don't have to hear about it or do you mean, you are now aware thanks to the Internet of just how bad it has been all along and you want to do something about it??? Here no evil, speak no evil, see no evil.

Stop looking at what to do about the Internet and look at what to do about a long standing issue. Alice in Wonderland was written by a pedophile and you weren't aware of how bad it is till the Internet?

Because the internet is world wide. Only so much can be done because not all countries outlaw child porn. The U.S. has outlawed it but one can still download it from sites in other countries. If the person here in the U.S. gets caught downloading they can be sent to prison but our laws do not pertain to sites originated in other countries, the U.S. (whether GW Bush wants to admit it or not) Doesn't have jurisdiction over the entire world.

Because no matter how hard authorities try to stop it there's always going to be some perverts out there that want to hurt kids. What should be done to curb it is to encourage them to look at midget porn instead and pretend they are looking at child porn. It's sad.

Yeah, why should they be free? Makes no sense to me. I'm sure those perverts are willing to pay a lot for it.

Now how am I going to sell any? Damn, might as well screw up that business idea of mine.

If you can freely access it, report it.
Your concern may lead the authorities to catching and putting away a scumbucket
