so the prophecy is the sphere that harry broke right? and how is it "made" by prof. trelawney? what does the prophecy have to do with voldemort wanting to kill harry? how does that relate back to harry's mom's blood sealing the bond?
i went to sparknotes, but those things are very clear to me. could someone help me out thanks =)

Trelawney made the prediction. What smashed was just a record of the prophecy from Dumbledore's brain, similar to what fills a Pensieve. The prophecy stated that the person who could vanquish Voldemort would be born in the seventh month, which was the part that Voldemort got from his source. So he decided that he would kill Harry, the one he deemed to be a threat, before he had a chance to defeat him. The part he didn't hear was that he would risk marking Harry as an equal (the powers transferred to him when Voldemort's curse rebounded) and that Harry would have the power that Voldemort knows not. That power is love, which was also the "protection" given to him by his mother when she died to save him.

Professor Trelawney made the prophecy to Dumbledore during her interview for a job at hogwarts. It was recorded as these things are in magical worlds apparently. Voldemort understood it to mean that Harry would kill him though it didn't actually say that it said one could live whilst the other was alive which everybody seems to assume would mean one would kill the other though I don't see that myself. Harry's mum gave her life to save him which gave him special protection and also, as the attack resulted in a scar on Harry, fulfiled part of the prophecy in that Voldemort marked him as his equal, up until that point it could have been him or Neville the prophecy was about.

Have you read the 6th book yet? It explains ALOT of what you just asked!!!! I could go into the explanations - but it would take me forever to write it all down - plus I havent read the books in almost 2 years, so I may be a bit rusty with some of the details... If you give me a few months to read them all again - I can write you a novel on all the of twists and turns, outcomes and clever plots going on behind the scenes!!
But seriously - you really have to read the 6th book to find out alot more information.

If you don't understand the book then wait for the film as it's usually easier to understand if you can see it happening!!
